Forty-one years ago today, Donald Johanson with Maurice Taieb e Yves Coppens discovered a very much complete skeleton of a female of new hominin species, that 4 years later will become Australopithecus afarensis. The specimen was marvellous, the anthropologists very excited, they were in the 70s, listening to the song "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" by the Beatles, and they decided to call the remains "Lucy" (or so the legend says...). Even after all these years, this discover remains one of the most amazing in human Palaeontology.
Quarantuno anni fa, Donald Johanson con Maurice Taieb e Yves Coppens scoprì uno scheletro molto completo di una femmina di una nuova specie di ominidi, che 4 anni dopo diventerà Australopithecus afarensis. Il campione era meraviglioso, gli antropologi molto emozionati, erano gli anni '70, stavano ascoltando la canzone "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" dei Beatles, e hanno deciso di chiamare i resti "Lucy" (o almeno così dice la leggenda...). Anche dopo tutti questi anni, questa scoperta rimane una delle più sorprendenti di Paleontologia umana.
