"A pumpkin tree," someone said.
"No," said Tom.
The wind blew among the high branches and tossed their bright burdens, softly.
"A Halloween Tree," said Tom.
And he was right.

An Halloween story, and a story about Halloween, that is truly fascinating. I loved the part that explored the history of the holiday, taking the reader on a fantastic journey through time and space. The narrative thread used as a framing device — involving a group of children searching for their friend Pip — is somewhat less engaging; I actually found it a bit dull.
The descriptions, however, are wonderful!
